Ok, so I'm out of my seasoned garlic (have been for awhile) and I am not out of garlic that I've bought. I'm a good 2 months from harvesting my garlic bulbs. Could I possibly pull up some of the green garlic now and it be fresh and tasty enough to use some of? I hate running to the store in the rain to just get a head of garlic when I have over 2 bulbs out there laughing at me that they're not done yet!

Going to steal some early green onions while I'm out too.

Trying to make a veggie mac & cheese dish... italian style! :D

Poke down around the bulb without disturbing the roots and see how plump it is. If it's big enough you can use it but if it's still green the part you don't use won't keep long.

Well, there was no bulb formed at all, I took one up anyways. :)

It was like a green onion, I just peeled down the leaves that were wet and dirty... then I cut up the nice delicate white part and it was about the fleshiness of a green onion too. It of course was very GARLIC in flavor. I sauteed it right up with the chopped onions and that was my punch of garlic, it was perfect :) But you don't get a lot so I will try not to pull any more unless I really need to. Glad to know I can do that now. :p

I've used them like that. The French often use them that way when a more delicate garlic flavor is wanted but you can use up a whole bed in a hurry doing it like that.

I'm so glad you posted this! I didn't realize I was also out of garlic and had to steal some young-un's from the garden! Whew! :D

Hahaha... its like you read my mind!

It was great for a quick back up, but I'm going to have to grab a couple of bulbs at the store to get me through. Good thing I plant so much, because I really go through some garlic around here! :D

I guess I don't use that much garlic. I always have plenty left. What I really go through are the shallots. I like the flavor better than onions.
