The squirrels ate my melon plants. My broccoli and cauliflower never came up, my ducks ate one of my basil plants and 2 of my tomato plants and something ate all the leaves off my marigolds!!!!!
:barnie

My yard looks funky because I now have my plants in cages. I will be amazed if I get anything out of the garden at this rate.

Hey wifezilla-I do feel your frustration :hugs , between the cutworms, hail and cooltemps nothing is looking as good as it should around here. But the cool thing about most plants is they are resillant and once (if) we get some warm and sunny weather things will spring back. I can give you some more basil seeds if you want to direct sow some and I have some extra marigolds too. It has been a rough start for us here in CO. I can give you some BT in case you are having cut worm visits. I don't know what to tell you about squirrels we don't have enough trees out here for them. Hey we are suppose to get a sun break this afternoon!!! Let me know if you want some seeds.

I have more seeds, but am debating what to replant.

One of the neighbor ladies is feeding the damn rodents so that is why we have so many. And yeah...we have trees galore with lots of squirrel nest. You can see them before the trees leaf out. Most of them are stuffed with pieces of my lawn furniture cushions!

Oh wifey! I'm so sorry! To love nature and try to grow things with animals is quite a pain sometimes. You need LOTS of fences and cages... I would not even have bothered with a garden had I not had all that fencing sitting around to start with. To battle my chickens on who eats what, when and where.... forget it! Just lock everyone out and be done with it.

Even my raised bed by the pond was easy pickings for the ducks... cleared out every strawberry plant, and coneflower, and columbine and decrotive grass I planted.

P.s. - NO ONE touched or ate my iris's though!!!! For some reason they were completely safe?! Try some iris's!!!

Sorry to hear about that wifezilla. Sometimes nature and gardens dont mix so well, yeah you probably should put cages to protect the plants. I understand your frustration i had squirrels eating my tulips in the spring and they still cause trouble now. You just have to find a way to deal with them, many people say that if you feed the squirrels they'll leave your garden alone but i think it makes it worse. Maybe you could put out things in your garden that squirrels dislike. Its not too late to replant basil or marigold seeds i have plenty extra if you need some.
Good Luck!! , i hope you win the battle against the rats with bushy tails.

There you go, and are you going to release them 10 miles away or kill them. Its illegal to kill them in some places but i usually dont like to kill thing, unless they got me so :somad mad that i didnt care.

I am in the more Southern part of Colorado. People around here don't get so upset about killin' stuff :D

Of course, if I was in Boulder or Vail, I am sure harming a squirrel would get me the chair :p
