We are growing our first veggie garden and not much is happening out there.
I think most of the problems are weather related I hope!
We have planted the corn twice now, we have a pretty good stand going but it is only 3" tall, and it is nearly the 4th of july already.
Pole beans have been planted twice also and still alot has not sprouted. Bush beans are even worse!
The peas came right up, but are no more than 4" tall right now.
Onions, lettuce, radishes, head lettuce, shallots, and taters are doing pretty well so far.
green onions have bolted, and the garlic looks sick.
Tomatoes and peppers are holding there own but havnt put on any noticable growth since being transplanted in the garden.
Zuchinni, yellow squash and cucumbers are not fairing good at all.
We are enjoying the garden this year, hoping the weather turns around so we can get a harvest.

Don't be discouraged!! The first garden is the beginning of a learning curve that never ends. There is still plenty of gardening season left for all your plants to turn around!
Did you plant the garlic in the fall? If so, it should look "sick" about now. Harvest should take place in another month, or so...
If you onions are bolting, go ahead and cut those flower tops off- they will keep growing. The tomatoes and peppers really want heat- and warm nights. If you aren't getting that kind of weather they will just sit there and wait...
You should congratulate yourselves for a job well done. There is so much more to gardening than the harvest- I am glad you are enjoying it- that is the most important thing! Looking forward to hearing your progress!

Don't be too discouraged Collector, it's definitely been a weird year for growing. Some of my stuff is just sitting there looking at me.....
my watermelon and cantaloupe are the same size they were when they went in the ground, and my corn is coming up but is looking kinda yellow, as if it needs something extra.
I finally got my peppers in yesterday and I'm covering them with a little hoop tunnel to keep them warm, so my fingers are crossed for them.
I think what we need more than anything is some :coolsun !!
We're bound to get some soon don't you think?
Keep your chin up! :)

I posted this link the other day, Collector.

NOAA Growing Degree Days (click) -- a measurement of heat accumulated through the growing season.

Look at Spokane, probably the nearest weather station to you, and see how it compares to other cities. See how it compares to cities in Wyoming!

Of the 9 cities in Wyoming, 7 have had a warmer start to the year than Spokane! Only Rock Springs and Jackson Hole have been cooler. Wyoming! You know? Some places in Wyoming don't even have a growing season!!

Here are some other cities that have had a warmer start than Spokane:

Caribou, in the far north of Maine
Marquette, on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and
Devil's Lake, North Dakota. Need I go on??

I will! It has been warmer in Novosibirsk in Siberia! Don't believe it? Check it out here: Weather Channel, Growing Degree Days Calculator.

I've been eating bok choy, green onions, and lettuce for weeks and recently graduated to kale . . . Spinach was planted kind of late and so was the radish but their harvest has begun, too.

I will post a picture of my corn!

Steve

I was having the same problems, Collector, but we finally started getting some warm weather and everything has really taken off. Surely you will have some sun soon and your plants will respond quickly! ;)
