Has anyone ever ordered from Gardener's Choice?, i was looking at their strawberries they claim that their Tri-star strawberries bear all 4 seasons of the year, is this too good to be true??
I'm kind of interested in getting some of those strawberry plants to bear fruit for Fall :D .

Here's their website, take a look:

Call me weird, but I don't trust any place that doesn't use REAL PHOTOS. I mean seriously. It is 2009 for goodness sake. A 5 year-old with a cheap digital camera can take a descent pic for posting on the web.

Tristar is a well-known strawberry, I think it was one of the first of the day neutrals to be offered on a large scale and is still planted frequently in this area. (You might do some research to make sure what varieties of dayneutrals do best in your area, as it varies)

So whether you buy Tri-star needn't have anything to do with this particular company, I am sure you can get it lots and lots of other places.

When exactly it bears will depend where you live and how you treat it -- remember it will not bear *much* for most of that time, just an occasional strawberry to put on top of a sundae or something. I have not heard of day-neutrals bearing in winter or very early spring outside of a greenhouse, but I believe they will do it in a greenhouse (tho they may need to be replaced yearly in that case).

Frankly, plant and flower photos are so desperately UNrepresentative these days, I don't trust a photo one bit, so not having a photo wouldn't bother me at all :p

Have fun,

Pat

I bought an everbearing type for my zone, and I should get 3 seasons... I know its not the tri-star. I did however read about the tri-star... it just wasn't what was going to do BEST where I am :)

Here is several PAGES about strawberries... it has MANY varieties listed there... and the differences. Look at neutral and everbearing types for your needs. You should be able to find ANY of these at ANY nursery or online company.

Several places have these on clearance, or buy one get one right now because they are almost out of season for planting. So go get yourself a good deal!

Thanks guys for that great info. !! :tools

Yeah i dont understand why they dont use real photos either, maybe their trying to be different?
I actually tried contacting them through the phone and e-mail with no luck, i even ordered their catalog at least 5 times in the past two months still have not received it yet...:idunno

Well i chose tri-star and eariglow as the varieties i would like to plant. For a strawberry i'm looking for good yields, disease resitant, sweet flavor, and maybe large berry size although bigger is not always better. Now its just where i'm going to order from hmmm.. :bee
