While we are enjoying Kate's Winter Wonderland, Kasaundra's ice storms, and trying to figure out how to get to the chickens thru the ice & cold, etc. - Australia is trying to have a growing season.
Australia just finished the hottest year since record-keeping began in 1910. To commemorate 2013 as the hottest year on record, the Australian weather service decided to add a new color to its temperature map. No, I'm not kidding!

I thought about putting this on JackB's lettuce thread but Hal already made the case there that Australia isn't exactly having lettuce-growing weather.
