The garlic scapes are starting to die back, so I figured I'd check out what was under the surface. I dug up 2 plants and saw...nothing. :( The clove I planted was fatter than it was before, but that was it. I'm guessing there's nothing to do about it now, but is there something I should be doing when I plant again in the fall?

Oh, and will those bulb-less bulbs be any good to eat? Figure I might as well get something out of them!

That happens occasionally. Different reasons, some of which I forget. That can happen when you plant in the spring instead of fall. Those hard nodes you sometimes find on the outside find on the outside of the clove will do that. I'm sure there are other reasons.

They are garlic. You can use them. You can also plant them, preferably in the fall. They should make proper cloves next time.
