I'm going tomorrow to pick up my new horse. He's a 12-year-old Tennessee Walker gelding. I got him free!!! He's a rehab horse, retired show horse, cleared for light work and to build up from there. His current owners had four horses and are downsizing to two because they couldn't afford them all.

I was just looking for any old (free) horse to serve as a new pasture mate for my gaited Paint gelding, Journey, and I really lucked out on this one. I guess there's been a lot of people here lately unable to afford or sell their horse because of this lousy economy. I hate that for them, but I will give him a good and loving home.

His name is Rocky, but I don't really like it...not original enough for me. I'll take all the suggestions I can get! Thanks!

Wow, Journey! Congratulations!

I have only bought 1 horse - a long while ago. The person was out of town and his brother was selling the horse (a Paint). I asked the horse's name and he smiled and said, "Willie."

Later, I learned that his brother's name was Will .

I used to care for Dad's horse at my place. When that horse went to a new owner, he called it "Trigger." !! That was such a startling choice . . . I can no longer remember the dang horse's name. It was something similar to his sister's name - also Dad's horse. Her name was "Misty."

Nothing creative here - just wanted to say that your new horse is a fine looking critter. Here is wishing you the very best of times with him :).

Along that same theme...Traveler.

Of course the first one I thought of was... Forever... ala journey to forever. :p

Wow, congrats! We always talk about a horse... but its never going to happen. :p So I will enjoy your ownership instead! :D

Anyways, my daughter always says she's going to get a horse (she's 3) and she's going to name is 'Jaguar'. She's pretty creative that one!

I say going on the traveling theme is a great idea! Since your other horse is Journey maybe name this one 'Miles'.... because a journey of a 1000 miles brought you home! ;)

Thanks guys! Yeah, maybe I should stick with a theme, pick something meaningful. My Paint's registered name is Bandit's Spirit of Freedom, not a bad name, but I called him Journey because he was my first horse and it was a journey of learning for both of us. I have certainly been on a Quest to find this second horse too. Took me awhile to find a good match.

I talked to the lady who owns him today (have to wait until next week to get him because I have to borrow my BIL's truck). She is so sad to give him up. I really hate that for her, I know that's got to be hard. But she's glad he's getting a good home and asked me to occasionally send pics. I think now I might feel too guilty to change his name! Idk, I'll have to see when I get to know him a little better...

Ah, go ahead and change his name, Journey.

You can always refer to him as "Rocky" to his previous owner.

Seems to me that you've gotten some real good suggestions but, whatever you do, don't call him "Trigger!"
