even if the wind was up.

we had to do a little shoveling this morning. started the drive a little later than hoped for. drove slow most of the way.

i was worried that this gathering was going to be a repeat of the the TG one where hardly anyone really talked to each other much, between the tv (football game) and people using their devices... glad that it did not happen that ways. we actually played a little bit of a card game and talked and had some fun, told some stories.

i had to wear my old crocs that i resoled and made sure to show them to my brother so he could roll his eyes and make comments. was worth it entirely! :)

the food was excellent, as usual, honey spiral ham, cheesy potatoes, salad, apple pie later.

my brother wanted to make more rock candy. tip: do cinnamon or peppermint last... had to air out the house a bit.

the drive home was a bit more of a hazard because it was at night and the wind was up more, blowing more snow around, but no issues beyond it taking some time. curled up here and keeping warm and now time to sleep.

thank you to everyone who's made me welcome here. i hope you all had a nice day too. :)

Glad you had a good Christmas. How much snow did you get ? I find I feel very different about snow based on the month. Dec snow is Christmas snow and I love it. Jan and Feb is winter snow don't love that

I haven't wanted to talk about Christmas, 2017. Thanksgiving was the difficult day in my family when I was a kid. We made special efforts on that day and still do. As a kid, I had a couple of Christmas days when I was really sick, probably the flu or something. Well, I was sick on Christmas - or, recovering.

DW "came down" with the bad cold after I did. She was stressed out, a lot. We both made trips to our doctors - she went twice. About 10 days ago, she said that she would give it 2 more days and wanted to go to the hospital if not better. She said on the 3rd day that we decided not to go earlier because it was too far to drive on our very snowy day. We drove to her doctor's office that day; it was further to drive than the hospital. I believe that some of her "fever thinking" was still confusing her.

So, we didn't want to give our colds to anybody. (DS probably was the source for ours, after Thanksgiving visit.) Most of my congestion had cleared up and DW is a good 80-90% better! DD and DSIL arrived late in the day with gifts. Ours for DD was cut from the shipping package and she pulled it out, herself. DSIL's came in a card with pictures of the intended gift. The card was pulled from the microwave where it had been "sterilized" before their arrival and brief stay. My few Christmas cards had gone the same route with letters explaining how they were shaken out of a plastic bag into the Post Office collection box.

Anyway, we are lots better and have managed to make it to doctors and pharmacies and grocery stores and the freezer in the garage so as to take care of ourselves. I have even done some snow shoveling and took those 30 minute walks indoors lately when "snow exercise" was not required. (The pounding in my head had mostly stopped.)

This has been a long lament and you probably stopped reading 5 minutes ago, if you realized what was good for you. Be sure to drink your morning orange juice and have a big helping of leafy greens later :D.

Thank You.

As best I recall, it's been over 4 years since we have had a cold. it wasn't easy to shake. The big problem was difficulty sleeping with DW, primarily.

You know, cold meds are made for young people! Neither of us are supposed to take decongestants or Benadryl. Twenty years ago, I could have gotten through the days in very nearly normal fashion. And, those would have helped me along to better health!

I was advised to take Robitussin DM. I'd say that it got us about one-third "there." And for DW, that wasn't nearly enough. Five MD prescribed meds later, she's down to an albuterol inhaler.

;) Steve ;)

just a few inches. we had it shoveled easily enough in the morning. then the wind came up... brrr! i really don't mind any of it at all. snow gives me a break where i can do other things for a few months and i like how it looks "out there" with the sparkles and not so dreary as it gets when the snow is all melted and it is nothing much but browns, greys and a little green here or there.

Steve

i did read it all and am glad you've managed to recover somewhat. :) i cannot take many cold medicines either.

i woke up this morning with a sore throat. not sure of the source as i was out last week and also Mom has visited some of her friends who've been ill. hopefully it will just stay low key - i have to do some family things this week yet and can't avoid them...

as for childhood holidays, some were fun and good but after the parents split up that complicated things, i'll leave it at that.

i'm just so glad/relieved that we all talked more and had a nice day of it. :) i was dreading a repeat of TG.
