Attach a string to your thermometer BEFORE you shove it, deep, into the compost pile, to check the temp.

I guess this is the compost-pile version of why, when you take a horse's temperature, there should always be a string attached to the thermometer. For anyone to whom this is unclear, I should point out that you do not take a horse's temperature from the front end of the horse.

In comparison, that doesn't make losing your thermometer in a compost pile, so bad after all!!!!

Thats a good idea. That way you wont lose it. Yep dont take a horse's temperature from the front end :lol:

BTW, just HOW much of you thermometer housing do you think will be left when you find it?
I was using a "turkey frying" thermometer....just a great old big thermometer with a metal clip.
