Finally!!!!! :tools I made 2 raised beds that are 4' x 8' each, filled them with all kinds of good planting stuff, then planted my little tomatoes I started from seed. Then I planted more seed. If all goes well, we will be harvesting tomatoes (heirloom standard and cherry), summer squash, bush beans, basil, and cilantro. Next weekend I'm going to try to get the "hill" planted with cantaloupe, cucumbers, pumpkins, etc. We also planted 2 little bare root apple trees a couple of months ago that are really starting to leaf out. I'm getting so excited!!!! :weee

Congrats, sounds like a productive weekend! What kind of apple trees did you plant? Our weather here is still dismal we've been getting wind, snow, hail, and rain, and that's just today's weather, gonna be dry this weekend though and in the high 50s so that will help.

Sounds good Skeeter! What do you mean when you say "hill"?
Is that part of your beds,or a slope nearby?
I checked my apple trees today and the buds don't show any sign of even starting to swell.

Collector - We planted an Arkansas Black Spur and a Sierra something-or-other (the name escapes me right now, but they are native to our mountains here.

Lesa - I had planned on taking pics when I got home tonight, but when I went out to check on my beds I found that my daughter had let her pups out this morning and they made a heck of a mess in them, so I had to salvage what I could and replant some seeds. Needless to say I wasn't amused, but I think it will be ok. Our growing season really is nice, but the summers can get a little tiresome with the heat.

Thistlebloom - Just beyond the area where I put the raised beds the land slopes off . Up unitl last year it used to be part of a horse pasture, so there's lots of manure and wasted hay composted there. I figured this would be a great place to plant anything that wants lots of space. This is also where we planted the apple trees. It looks like we have one blossom starting to open on one of the trees! I won't let them set any fruit this year, but I do want to enjoy the blossoms.
