I can't tell from the pic. Can you get a pic of the item close up laid out flat, so we can see the stitches? It looks knit, but can't be sure.

When I enlarged the photo it is a bit blurred. But I am leaning towards knit also.

I think I can spot knits and I think I can identify purls. That means the item was knitted. However, there are places where I think I see double crochets. Perhaps that is because the item was cable stitched and I'm not really sure of how cable stitching is done.

I am going with the others and saying Grandma knitted, but really, a better photo might turn me around entirely.
