A neighbor gave us a grape vine... he said they were grape Thompson seedless. Well, they have seeds... so Thompson seedless they are NOT.

Hubby is hugely disappointed... but I figure its producing grape vine... don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

But the issue is... what kind is it!?

Maybe it was a hybrid :idunno ? Did they get the vine from a start of their grape vine or did they plant them from seed?

No my neighbor bought 9 vines about 4-5 year ago from a nursery. 8 were concord, and one was labeled a Thompson Seedless Green. He decided to gift the Thompson Seedless to us as a mature vine (which didn't produce for him yet) and we transplanted it in our yard this past March.

The grapes are just about ready, and in testing one I noticed they were in fact not seedless at all.

I have since taking cuttings from this vine to start more vines. I'm just curious what I have.

From my searches it seems common for a Riesling white grape to have brown spots?! I do not see anything about that grape having seeds... but my green grapes do have brown spotting. Or is that from enviromental impacts?

There are lots of seeded green varieties (both eatin' and winemaking types) so I dunno whether you will really ever know what it is for sure. Just appreciate it :) Green grapes make an interestingly-colored jelly, btw, sort of pinkish-lavenderish in my experience -- try it :)

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
