I got up this morning to let the chickens out. Since when can I see my breath in August, mid-August at that? Checked the weather...46 What? Since when does it get down to 46 in the dead middle of August? At 5:20 yesterday afternoon it was a whopping 66! No one has been in the pool for a month; just too cold. The peppers are giving up. I want my share of global warming! It seems Steve is hogging it all in the PNW. Perhaps a fan or two in his front yard pointed to the E/SE...

Doggoneit, MontyJ, that's too cool!

No, it has been all the way back on June 25th since the thermometer rose above 50f, and stayed that way. Of course, it nearly took until the the 25th of June before we saw/felt any mornings that warm. Except for that remarkable high of 61 earlier this month - no one can say that the weather hasn't tried for consistency, at one end of the thermometer or the other . . .

If it is any consolation MontyJ, my peppers have never recovered from Junuary. Usually, with a little extra fertilizer and hilling soil around them, they are able to get onto some growth path. It never really happened this year. Maybe I should have removed every fruit that set and made them start over. Maybe, I should never have sown seed in the starter mix back in March .

Steve, at this time of year around here we should be getting up complaining that it is still too hot for 7 am. :D The temps around here have been much cooler than normal.

It's been so cool here we have considered closing the pool!!!! :hit We have never closed the pool before labor day. The minute we do, the weather would turn around and be 90-100 in no time!
Just so irritating! Looks like it's going to stay this way for a while too. :/

Dew, we're supposed to be back in the upper 80's by next week, so maybe this will come your way too. With the strange weather we have had this year, you may be able to use your pool in November.

Previous two summers, several days with a high above 110. Months (plural) with absolutely no rain. Some things did not do well in my garden. I guess they are no good for this climate.

This year we went about 6 weeks with no rain earlier but for the past few weeks enough rain so the grass is green. Im not getting the destructive rain others are, just enough to keep the grass green. Never did see 100 degrees. Low this morning the mid-50s. Forecast high today mid-70s. Some things in the garden are doing great. I guess they really like this climate. My sweet peppers dont though. They just wont turn color.

When I was in Denmark, the Danes would start swimming in the ocean when the water temperature hit 55 degrees. We could tell when our kid needed to come out to warm up because his lips turned blue.

It will be interesting to see what the winter brings. It will be interesting to see what next week brings.

Sorry about your weird weather back there. I'm not unhappy with our extended heat. I have an Alaskan Fancy starting to turn, and my pepper plants are loaded and still blooming. Work has been sweatier than ever, but if I get a tomato harvest it's all good!

Hope you get the tomatoes you need thistlebloom!!! We have tomatoes that need picked and canned. I'm not sure, but I think we will be doing that when Monty get home from work. The temp today is only supposed to be in the 70's.... in the 80's sometime next week.

I know, this has been such a weird summer, I barely feel like we even had one! Especially with school starting back so early. My DH has kept our pool so clean and nice, but we haven't been in it for almost a month now. By the time I have free time in the evening, it is too cold!

I am also noticing that my tomatoes (and some that my neighbor gave me of hers) are very mealy this year. Doesn't matter the variety... Yucky! :(

Who knows what winter has in store for us....

ETA: And the grass is as thick and lush as in April! My DH is soooo ready for it to die and turn brown already!

I know that we are ready for the grass to quit growing!!!! Monty has been cutting grass every weekend this summer. I cleaned our pool today, and no one has been in it for a month either. I guess you win some and loose some. My neighbor put up a pool this summer and the weather went down hill.

I'm afraid to see what winter is going to bring us this year.
