Of course, it is really cool and important to save money... But, what a difference in quality!!! I was looking at a jar of tomato sauce (organic) much smaller than I can, and it was 6 bucks!! Last year, even with blight I canned 140.00 worth of sauce. Talk about delicious! I suppose you can spend too much- especially, starting out. It seems like it would be difficult not to get your money's worth-at least!

I really enjoyed the article. I got out easy as far as initial costs. My husband works with a guy that allowed us to borrow his tiller two years in a row. When I started canning last year, my 94 year old grandmother (who's entire lot was a garden) went into a nursing home and I got all of her canning stuff. There was cases upon cases of jars and lids. I feel very firunate to get these. I did not have to produce any raised bed because we have pretty good dirt. I did buy a compost bin this year and have been filling it up. I consider myself lucky (except for this spring. My garden was flooded).

Yep, its important to save money but i think growing your own vegetables seems to give you quality for less money than spending more at the grocery and the quality not as good. Nothing like getting fresh vegetables from your own garden cant get any fresher than that.
