Hanging out at the hospital, this morning. Being here has nothing to do with health. It has to do with comfort zones and a wait.

Then, there was a code red while I had my midmorning coffee and snack in the cafeteria!!! It took a few minutes before flashing lights on exits went off and all clear was announced.

Completely forgot what my TEG comment was supposed to be! Could have started on @Nyboy "blacking out" thread but knew his had to do with bulbs. The light still hasn't gone on ... again.

Comfort zones. You know, there is something called "muscle memory." We all have it. Has to do with everything from walking to riding bicycles to turning light switches on & off. Everything. I suspect that it gets attention from people who treat dementia patients.

By the way, I headed into code red zone because the best chairs are there. Made a restroom stop first. Reported to staff that restroom was out of paper towels. You know, the sooner these people get back to their comfort zones and muscle memory, the better.

;) Steve

Watching people at a hospital is revealing. And, I don't mean just because of those gowns that open in the back.

I stay away from the emergency rooms. Still, some of that very real life drama may turn up anywhere in a hospital.

No. I like just acknowledging that people with health problems have a right to be there, however they present themselves. It's okay. Many visitors seem to be of a like mind.

At one point, I sat near two elevator doors. It was a little too intense so I soon moved. But, not before one of those revealing scenes of human hospital behavior.

A lady wrapped in a blanket and in a wheelchair with her attendant showed up. Within a minute or two, about 6 other people arrive. Ground floor, one of the elevator doors opens.

The attendant backs in pulling the chair. Five others crowd in! As they are passing through the door, the other elevator arrives. They continue right on crowding in. A few comments are made, everyone smiling.

The little olde lady with a walker and the oxygen machine is the only one to turn a degree or two and pass through the door of the other elevator!

It was so funny seeing inside as the two doors stood open before both closed almost simultaneously ... one with a clever olde lady leaning on her walker; the other with people almost sitting on the lap of a patient in a wheelchair!

Steve :)

Steve, if a hospital waiting room is one of your comfort zones, you have had different life experiences than I have had.

There have been times when the hospital has been the better part of my world.

Never mine. I don't mind a visit to an ill friend, but I've actually checked myself out and walked most of the 8 miles home. Dumb, dumb, dumb, but I feel I can get (or give myself) better care at home.

With DH there twice last month and me stuck overnight on those torture instruments of couches turned into "beds", certainly has done nothing to change my opinion of them.

My mother would go over every charge on her hospital bill. When she questioned charges to DR that never even looked at her, was told insurance paid it why are you complaining.

Our healthcare system is a sad state of affairs anymore these days.
