the last 2 weeks every time anyone walks from the employee parking lot to the main entrance. if you do not keep a close eye on the surroundings <the power lines, roof edge, sign.

you will be harassed.... there is a pair of mockingbirds
mockingbird.jpg

that have a nest in a holly tree on the corner of the building, they will go after you once your not looking.
and yes there are times you will get tagged teamed. but as long as you keep direct eye contact with them they do not buzz you, yes that means walking backwards....

knowing that we were having a shop tour this morning at 10:30 took a break in the break area, yup they come 4 grown men and yup they got tagged teamed. hands a waving like little kellys running to the entrance..:clap

all i can say thank goodness the babies have left the nest as of today and have moved to other trees ,but mom and pop are still very protective of their turf while they are still feeding them...

hope they find another nesting site next year.......

What fun! Mockingbirds are fearless. I watched one drive away a hawk a few weeks ago! We had a pair that nested in our crepe myrtle tree at our old house. They never dive bombed us, they knew we were harmless to them.

I have to admire a bird who weighs ounces protecting it's young against any and all.

I have always liked Mockingbirds, when I was a kid I thought they were so smart to memorize all the other birds songs. We had a pair of Manx toms back then that were harassed ceaselessly in the spring by them. I always rooted for the birds. :)
