Hard places in tomato core!

My Brandywine and Rutgers tomatoes have hard spots in the core. Is this related to the heat? I did a search and cannot find anything but I think I remember something about it being because of the heat. Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks.

Heat, or I had some with DARK hard spots in the tomato causes by stink bug damage when the tomatoes were still green. Very common in the south. TERRIBLE bugs!!!!!
