Heavy Hair Loss On Rabbit

Harvey's pen is filled with hair. If it was beginning of spring I would shrug it off as shedding out winter coat, but it is almost fall. He does not let me hold him for to long.He has no bare patches if not for all hair in corners I would not know this is happening. He is acting and eating fine. His diet is always bowl of rabbit pellets, any old fruit and vegetable in fridge couple hours a week tractored on lawn no chemicals mostly cut weeds.

Can I use flea medication like front line on him ? Dose is based on weight

I wouldn't use a flea med on a rabbit, but I'm not a rabbit expert. Could he be shedding out his summer coat and getting his winter one?
Horses do that starting in mid summer. Luke has a pile of short summer hair every time I groom him.

One possibility, mites. I'd get the advice of a vet, I know, dollars flying out the window. The only remedy I've used on rabbits is Preparation H for sore hocks and mineral oil for ear mites, lops are notorious for this, anything else it was a trip to the vet.

I tend to agree with @thistlebloom on the summer shed. My rabbits are starting theirs. Checking for mites is a good suggestion also. My buck Fur'Nando (Silver Fox) sheds from spring to fall, he gets brushed at least 3 times a week to avoid hairball impactions.

I have never ever had fleas on my rabbits, even when my dogs have had them.

@LocoYokel , love the name you've given your buck, Silver Foxes are such a pretty breed. The breeds we raised, not all at the same time tho were Belgium Hares, Tans, Checkered Giants, Champagnes, Dutch, Californians, Satins, Netherland Dwarfs and Holland Lops.Those were very fun years, traveling to rabbit shows mostly in the U.S.
Getting the right ear length in our Checkered Giants was a challenge as was keeping the ear length under 2 inches in the N.Dwarfs but we finally did it. The last few years we concentrated on B. Hares, Tans (hubby's), the Netherland Dwarfs were mine.

After joining this forum I found out @baymule 's club was the one that had a hand in setting up the ARBA convention in 1977 we attended at the Shamrock Hilton in Huston Texas, small world isn't it.
Friends of ours were the ones who got the Britannia Petites recognized and excepted as a separate breed here in the U.S. and Canada, in the UK they're known as Polish. Feisty littler buggers they are. We put up a trophy for BOB at one of our local shows, showing a hand with the index finger bandaged with a drop resembling blood held high.
At the the ARBA presentation in Huston our friend who has a quirky sense of humor, brought out a whip saying this is what you need to get these petite little rabbits under control and pose correctly, I wasn't there but I imagine he had the room howling.

After a fun week we headed home, going through Canadian customs we had to open our bags. The custom officer asked our friend why he had a whip in his suitcase, with a straight face he said it's a marital aid, every one in the line behind us started to choke, then.... they came to me, my suitcase had set off the alarm. I had to explain what the 4 dozen automatic watering nipples were. By now the officer was getting a little exasperated with us, he said and why have you got these, holding up a pair of pliers, I explained they were J-clip pliers, I explained their use was putting wire cages together, he then said why the two pairs as he lifted the second pair of pliers, I explained these ones were used to remove the J-clips. By now his face was getting a little red, he told us in a growly voice move on your holding up the line, we did as fast as we could thinking if he got any more exasperated with us he's order a strip search. I do ramble on at times but a little humor is good for the soul.

My vet is bringing her dog in Sat for grooming. Don't know how stressful it might be for Harvey if I bring him to work. I have not seen him starch, but I don't spend a whole lot of time with him. Did not realize they have a summer shed. What are signs of mites ?

Kitten flea powder can be used. When Revolution first came out my Vet recommended it. I once made a mistake when ordering it ended up with $900 of it. Glad to have another pet I can use it on
