Got about 10 inches of heavy wet snow today. Think my conifers suffered the most from it. Some are bent almost to the ground. Knocked some snow off the small trees. Do you do anything for your trees and shrubs before a big storm ?

I don't do any special prep before storms, but if we get a heavy wet snow I get out there and take it off my shrubs and whatever else I can reach.

In another home, I had 6 or 8 arborvitae in the back yard. I used to "think about" tying them - wrapping heavy twine around and around.

What I did do was get out there and knock snow off them with a broom.

Arborvitae are terrible with too much snow but I kept those bushes doing okay for the 9 years I was there. Best of Luck, NyBoy!

Knocking the snow off is a good idea. Don't try knocking ice off or you risk breaking the branches. Tying them works (I never have gotten around to doing it) and a bit of burlap tied over the top will keep branches from bending out.
