Okay, so most people don't think of "moderation" as much to get excited about! But, I'm talking warmth!

When the WS predicted 58° the other day, I got mildly stimulated . . . Hey! It would have been the warmest afternoon of 2014! Well, they missed it and 56° about a week ago and another afternoon like that about a week before that has been the best we've had . . . ANYWAY. The forecast is for the thermometer to hit 60° on Monday and top 70° the day after!

The daffodils began flowering across the road yesterday and I've seen 1 or 2 forsythias breaking into bloom! Of course, there is a problem with these bright yellow hues showing up down here. Yeah, they attract rainclouds. Well, I'm ready to take my chances!

Should be able to get away from the protected growing here at home and get out in an actual garden by tomorrow or maybe Monday! Frost still every morning but I'd so like to get it opened up and get away!

Those "sunrise in the garden" pictures will have to wait a week or two but they're coming . . . It was comfortably daylight at 6am, this morning. Are you ready for gardening???

Woohoo!! ahem... I mean, yes, Steve, I am moderately excited too!

It's this part of the season that I imagine myself preparing for every fall. That I will actually get all those annoying non gardening things taken care of so I can concentrate on the planting, weeding, watering, and working mayhem that will soon break loose.

As usual I was lulled into thinking I could do it tomorrow....now I'm gettin' scared!

@thistlebloom , I saw some weed seedlings, yesterday. Lambs Quarters and those were in the shed, with all of its great southern exposure. But. There were some more small sprouts out in the raised bed I covered with the hoops and plastic.

I just figured out what those were: Money Plants.

So, you know what this means, don't you? Yeah, I stomped all over those Money Plants getting that hoop house up. Now, I've gotta figure out how to make some of that, money that is, so that I can pay for all this heat I've been pumping into the greenhouse and, soon, etc.

Hey! I could sure use some money plants... with my luck they'd set pennies and not twenties though.

Speaking of weeds and moderation, there will be plenty of one without the other in my beds up front. There was TONS of bindweed growing throughout the potato patch last year. I'm doomed!!

Oh, no!

I try, try, try, to practice this: never walk past bindweed.

It has not shown up on the other side of the fence, yet. In the big veggie garden, I certainly have it under control but . . . the neighbor and I share the same tractor guy. I hate him!

No, the neighbor can decide for himself whether he allows the bindweed to grow but I don't appreciate the tractor guy spreading the roots into my garden!

I wish I could take care of the 2013 expansion with a spading fork but it will likely, never happen. A spading fork is a good tool choice for perennial weeds. Can really come down to a for-once & for-all deal.

Well you got me excited (moderately) to check the weather...its not as promising here. :/ the warmest temp i see next week is 64 on tuesday. Thats okay i guess?

Heh, i pondered for like 1 second this spring about putting another raised bed in our backyard. We want to dig out the crawl space under our house, and need to figure out what to do with the dirt. BUT the wholeback yard is bindweed. Everywhere. So...i just put that thought out of my head! It would just overrun anything i planted in there. Still dont know what we'll do with the dirt.

Did it!

Weather Service says it's : 59 ° and yes, that would be the warmest day of the year.

We are back from the first visit to a garden this year. Straightened a couple of beds that were, more or less, prepared last October, and planted shallots, onion sets, parsnip seed, and cilantro!

Might go back with the seed potatoes tomorrow.

We have 54 forecast for tomorrow, which would be our warmest day. The snow is melting! Still a ton on the garden, but progress is being made.

I wasn't sure what bindweed is, but after searching, I see it is what we have all through our asparagus and raspberries. We had named it "the dreaded white root".

Sheesh! I was thinking it might be a bit too early to plant yet, but if you can do it. . . so can I. Monday I get something in the garden as long as it doesn't rain.
