Since you are in my neck of the woods, albiet a bit less scorching temps during the day.

What are you getting in the ground now or in September for our San Diego county gardening?

So far I have kailaan (Chinese brocoli) and Japanese red mustard up and growing. Both are doing fie and showing no effects of the heat although the kailaan was getting leggy so I had to hill it up. My baby pak choy is just coming in. I just took out the last of my Lima beans so I'll be turning that area under soon. As soon as the ground settles back down I'll be planting Tokyo Market white turnips. I like them in stews or mashed up with potatos. I'm also getting an area ready for cabbage but I'll wait till it starts cooling off and some of the bugs leave before I plant it. There are too many cabbage butterflies around righ now.

Yep, the cabbage whites are fluttering everywhere here too.

Scared to plant any broccoli-related crops right now.

Thinking about getting beets in the ground pretty quick, and perhaps taking another stab at carrots.

Carrots do well any time of they year for me here but I have to plant ball carrots. This are was a rocky beach a million or so years ago and the rocks are still here. You can tell they have been rounded off by surf and sand.

Tooooo blasted hot here in central Texas right now, too. It was 106 today ... ridiculous.

Our corn crop was a complete disappointment this year, aside from providing some halloween decor and a few nibbles of cob for the chickens. I'm trying to decide what to plant in the corn bed once I get the stalks pulled.
