I was on the forum before but life got in the way. My only gardening to date has been keeping my bird of paradise alive for 8 years, 3 states, and 11 moves.

So I am starting over from scratch in new climate (Baytown, TX). I hope to stay in current house for several years but everything will be in containers just in case. Aim is some dwarf fruit trees and herbs to start. ETA: It is rental property with heavy nondraining clay soil.

Welcome Margali! Hope this year will be a great gardening year for you. I do some container gardening and they are high maintenance for me. My containers are huge and every couple years I have to remove the plant and refresh with new soil. It helps to heavily mulch them to prevent them from drying out.

one thing for sure. moving often keeps a person from accumulating too much stuff. :)

I'm hoping wicking beds will work out for dwarf fruit trees and herbs. Aiming to make them out of halved food grade 55gal barrels.

Flowerbug- Do kids count? ;) I have 3 of those now. 6yr, 2.5yr, and 8mo.

Welcome! I lived in Baytown many years ago, now retired and live north of Tyler. I know the soil you have all too well! Glad to have you here!
