Enjoying and remembering. I know that we celebrate the sacrifices of our fallen or fallen family members, but Memorial Day was originally intended to honor the Civil War dead. Just some trivia. I thank our Veterans and fallen every day for the sacrifice that enables me to play at my hobbies this weekend.
We'll be holding on to our hats this weekend. Hurricane-strength winds are predicted. And hail and thunderstorms. And tornados.
I'm glad I'm not participating in the 100-mile yard sale that is a Memorial Day event here.
Thank you to all veterans and their families, I am very appreciative and grateful for your service.
My dad was a WWII vet also. Remembering him...
No 3 day weekend for me. Working a half day Monday. With this heat there are new plantings that will be too stressed if I don't water. But the rest of the day will be for enjoying.
Hey Seed, you and your three amigos? Sounds like a country song.
I'm still here, so far. Third round of storms due to move through in a couple hours. Or is it the fourth round?
Oh, on the topic of WWII veterans, for you who have cable or dish tv, there is going to be a program on "The Greatest Generation" on Sunday night. I think on CNN. Or maybe MSNBC. Tom Brokaw (sp?) is the host. It's probably a rerun, but still relevant.
My Daddy was a WW2 veteran. He joined the Navy before the war, signed on for 8 years and was still in the Navy when the war ended.
A bit of trivia; they were forbidden to tell their families where they were-loose lips sink ships. My daddy wanted to let his Mother know that he was ok and where he was, so he sent her a man's neck tie with a hula girl on it. When she opened it, her sister crowed "I know where JB is! He's in Hawaii!!"
