When I saw a member in same zone as me have a pomegranate with fruit I had to have one. They sent me a Amazon link where they got theirs from. I ordered 2 they came only labeled pomegranate, they where 2 different shades of green. One grew like crazy all summer and even flowered the other just sat doing nothing. Fall I bought them inside, one that did so well immediately lost all leaves and died ( I still have hoping it might come back) The one that did nothing started growing when bought inside. Over winter it doubled in size, problem is new growth is leggy and weak stems fall over, my goal was to keep alive till it could go back out side. I have only seen 1 pomegranate in garden, it was my uncles in LA, don't know what variety it was. It was a small single truck tree reminded me of old crab apple.

I would think you would prune to 2-3 main trunks, but no more than 1/3 at a time. Dormancy time is recommended for other fruit trees. Remember it needs to become a tree. By that I do not mean tall necessarily but the trunks must with stand weight of fruit.

Pomegranates do not take kindly to Wintering over in the house. They are a sub-tropical and they need full sun and lots of it. The best place to Winter them is a heated greenhouse but few of us have one of those.
