I was looking for something in my car and found several packages of spring flowering bulbs. Can I still plant them, nights here drop to the mid 20s. Can I plant them in pots, if so do I leave the pots outside? Thanks

If the bulbs look viable (firm) you can plant now. Assuming your ground is not frozen. Think spring!

Yes, I believe if the ground has not frozen you can plant them. Otherwise I would put them into pot and put the pots out so they can bloom in the spring still.

I am sending some tulip bulbs for christmas to my in-laws with instruction to not even TRY to plant outside, to put in pots now... and put out on their deck for spring blooms!

I had to give up on tulips. The darn pocket gophers think I'm serving them breakfast.

hoodat,
:)
Try planting flower bulbs that wildlife find less appetizing, like daffodils, alliums, and hyacinths.
I'm going to plant some daffodils around where I'm planting tulips in NC, they have lots of wildlife over there and don't want to take any chances with deer, rabbits and such. Although I could probably try putting up a fence around the flower bed.

Before I knew better... I planted 50 tulips. The next morning, I went out to look at the garden. 50 empty holes!! The squirrels had dug up every single one! I can also remember having one of my puppies out in the garden with me, during bulb planting. I would dig a hole, put a bulb in, and he would take it out. What a fun game! Needless to say, he spent the rest of the day in the fenced in, backyard!

That was my darling polish chicken! We had matching hats! She was, of course, one of the few chickens I have ever lost to a predator! And, the last chicken I will ever name! Trying to keep a "farmer mentality" now a days...There will be next year for your planting! Think spring...
