How to Root a Dahlia Sprout?

I accidentally knocked a sprout off my dahlia I was getting ready to plant outside. The sprout is about 1" long. I put it in a sealed Ziploc baggie with very wet soil, and under a fluorescent light for 24 hours a day, and it's looking good. When it puts out plenty of roots, supposedly by the end of the month, what should I do? Has anyone experimented with starting a new dahlia like this, just from a white sprout? The dahlia experts say it can be done...

Yes, it should root just fine. I usually start mine in peat or vermiculite and watch for roots through glass or plastic "pot".

A Dahlia Society member tells me I need to wait unti there are at least 1/2" of roots, before potting it in a 2.5 - 4" sized pot.
