The hummers are sure acting up this time of year; fattening up for their trip south, I guess, and after the babies came off the nest. I am putting out about 4 to 5 times the usual amount of nectar. There seem to be a lot more this year than for the last few years. I suppose that's a good sign.

How wonderful that you still have some So Lucky! I guess ours are all on their way south, I haven't seen any for over a week, but I'll keep fresh "hummer juice" out for another week or so in case any stragglers come through.

i noticed hummers this summer for the first time around my yard. they were buzzing by trying to get to all the jewel weed before the bees! wish i got a pic of the hummer that decided my over-sized tomato cage made a good perch to watch us struggle getting a tree cut up. he was probably taking a break from buzzing the sunflowers at that time. :p as long as he isn't buzzing by me to get out of his territory!

I think we've had more this year also, @so lucky.
Dh was sitting on the deck today and had one buzz his face. I told him it was saying, get off your butt and fill the feeder. :D
I try to keep the feeders filled at least through Sept... still have a bunch of salvias etc. blooming, but in Fall they seem to like the way Dh makes their lunch. :D

Don't you love hummers!?!?
They sure are busy this time of year. I see them more often and they will sit and drink for extended periods of time Fueling up for the trip south I guess.
