July is hottest month on record; drought expands to 63 percent of United States. The United States Department of Agriculture reported that American buyers can be ready to see a rise in food costs as a result of the severe drought conditions in the nation's Midwest. The changes will first be noticed in the fall.

I just heard on the radio this morning that in the top 12 Northeast states, this has been the warmest January through July on record, and the warmest July through July on record. The radio announcer was saying, "Wow! Let's hope this continues!" I thought, "blooming idiot!" Of course the man is not an idiot, he unfortunately is just like many who enjoy this heat and lack of rain/snow so that they can "live" a more pleasant life. They carry on and have no idea that much of what we grow in the North East; apples, blueberries, cranberries, pototoes, maple syrup all need moisture and 4 seasons. Without that, we have problems.

Sadly...Some people are just still not aware of the whole cycle of food.

That article paints a rather bleak picture. Not only keep those gardens growing, but can, freeze and dehydrate the harvest for storage. I love having a full pantry.
