Does anyone know if the acorn squash courge poivree is a hybrid or not? I was going to save the seed from one we bought, but wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. Thanks.

I don't know the answer to that question- but why not try sprouting a couple seeds in a damp paper towel... I would think if they sprout, you should be good. Keep us posted.

I don't know either, but it's probably worth a try. I have been very successful saving and growing seed from store-bought squash. Usually they're grown in a big enough field that they don't get a chance to cross. Make room for one or two plants in your garden (or a container) next year and maybe it can be a neat science experiment. Nothing to lose. :D

Fabulous idea, I do this to see if my older seeds are viable or not! :)

If the pumpkin is a 'pie pumpkin' like I'm thinking... for baking... it should :)

I think that they would probably sprout if they are hybrids it just what would grow. I would still try it.

You can save seed. I saved seeds and planted them many times.

Your seed may grow. But if you have other squash/pumpkins in your garden there is no telling what you will get.

My favorite, butternut squash, crossed with some other curcubit in my garden. The result was a golden watermelon shaped fruit that I had to use an ax on to split it open. It was that tuff, The interior was stringy, like a spaghetti squash only I was not growing any spaghetti squash. I'm not sure what crossed with it.

I will have to get fresh butternut squash seed this year to get a pure strain again,
