i read this on backyard herds and thought i would pass it on. hydrogen peroxide makes dogs/cats vomit. i never knew how much. the poster said 1 tsp per 5# of animal. they also said it is most effective up to 3 hours post ingestion.

we had just gotten our 8 wk old german shepherd puppy. he was in the closet with me while i was hanging clothes up. i suddenly noticed i was hearing him eating something. he had found an ancient rat poison block. FREAKED me out!!! i rushed him to the vet, they gave him hydrogen peroxide & we went on to spend a fortune on him. i would have been in serious trouble if the vet hadn't been open and available. i didn't know about H2O2 at the time.

BJ,

Very interesting. Now if I can remember that for when I need it.

We just had a discussion on another thread here about this...it's a great tip to know. Sometimes if you just call your vet they may tell you things like this over the phone...we would give out info like this where i worked. And sometimes we would say "well you should really bring them in so we can check them out..." its worth asking your vet, may save you some bucks.

Honestly we didnt worry too much about the dose, sometimes they will drink it right out of the bowl themself, sometimes you need to syringe it down their throat.

Our dog did the same thing and we gave her HP also. DW had heard about it worked great for us, we did not take her to the vet though she was fine...:)
