:ya I ordered an Amaryllis bulb that arrived last week. Its a big bulb, they were on sale and I always really wanted to get one. Today, I planted it in a pot. Can't wait to hopefully see it bloom :happy_flower . I'm sure it will help to get through these cold long winter days.
Anyone else have an Amaryllis?

Hi greenthumb! Yeah, I have one too! Mine came originally from some of my grandmas, who then gave them to my mom, who then moved and gave her HUGE barrel of them to me, then I moved and only brought one bulb with me. It is now three in the pot . They are up and about 4 -5 inches tall. it usually blooms around valentines day for me.
What color is yours?

thistlebloom,
That's nice how your amaryllis has history to it, that it came from your grandmas then your mom. I'm sure your amaryllis has a lot of meaning to you then just a flower bulb ;) .
My amaryllis is a variety called Samba, its red with white stripes around it. I was going to get a variety called Clown, which is fragrant but they were sold out, Samba's pretty similar to the other one anyway, except I don't think Samba is fragrant.

This is mine, don't know the name and it's not fragrant. A fragrant one would be awesome, then you could see your green and smell it too! :D

edited to correct my bad spelling!

I think yours may be an Orange Sovereign, Thistle. It has to be my absolute fav, although I don't think I dislike any amaryllis!

I'm (im)patiently waiting for the bulbs from last year to decide they've rested long enough. The friend I got them from says his bloom between Easter and Mother's Day. I've never tried saving the bulbs before, but he gave me these last year with explicit instructions. Since he has over 200 :ep that he's grown both from bulblets and seed, I've followed the instructions to the letter. His house in the spring is better than any botanical garden...he's a little OCD on daffodils and delphiniums, too!

Thanks desertcat! It's a bit redder than in the pic, but with a bit of orange. It's amazing how fast they grow once they poke up. Mine seems to gain a few inches daily. I didn't use to let mine dry out for a rest and wondered why it didn't bloom. I guess it was just too pooped out!

My mom has promised me some from her yard. Her bulbs belonged to my grandmother, which she dug up and took with her each time she moved somewhere new. So these same bulbs have been in our family for about 50 years - I think that's pretty cool.

I can't wait to put some of them in my yard!
