Hello

I think, as of this morning, I now have several little green carrot baby sprouts all over the bed. I'm surprised they popped up that quick. I have to keep watering them to keep the soil damp. Today I watered 4 times. I only water them until I see a puddle or 2 form.

I really wish I could put in some of those strawberry plants I saw at Lowes last week. But I would have to read alot about them first. The first thing would be where to put them.

Any other new crops popping up yet for anybody?

Question: Opinions on granule fertilizers for vegetables and or carrots.

Good luck & have fun!

i wish i could say things are sprouting up here. but everything has already been zapped with frost unless it is in a greenhouse or hoop tunnel.

good luck with your growing!

I don't know where you're located, but I'm 30 mi.west of St Louis and I'll be transplanting about 50 strawberry plants this weekend. If you saw strawberry plants at Lowes I'd imagine you're south of me.

Good morning

Thanks for the congrats. I'm pretty proud of those sprouts. Being its a first. And yea, I am a native Floridian. A sunny spot sounds good right now if I put them in the front yard. That's where the carrots are. I think I'll try to google some pics of strawberry beds for ideas on how to put them in the ground.

I found somewhere someone had pics of their brocolli bed. Which inspired me to do that. Really simple, I liked the layout. I dont know if it was someone on here, I can' remember. But I want to do that sometime.

While I was out watering early this morning I looked at my hand that was holding the sprayer and freaked out, there was a huge, black, winged something with a distinctive bright red marking in the middle of its body. I don't know what it was but it scared me so bad I shook it off and ran in the house. I know, little chicken me. I do not like bugs.

Rich, I sure would like to hear more about your strawberry plants sometime if you have time.

Take care for now!

Where are you that you can start carrots now? Weeding is the most important thing with carrots. I weed once really well and then mulch them heavily with grass clippings. Once they get lush no other weeding is required.

I started my gardening adventure with strawberries, I LOVE strawberries!!!!
The heat of this last summer killed almost all my plants, along about early Sept I found a lady in Wash state who was using strawberry plants as ground cover and was thinning them out. She had an auction on e bay for 15, I contacted her and bought about 100 plants. The catch was they each had about 5 runners attached, now I had over 450 plants to set out.
A friend of mine is a strawberry nut, also, and he took 100 or so of the runners.
It was still kinda dry here when I planted mine and not all of them survived.
I have a small greenhouse and I always have a few growing in there, so I am going to fill in the missing plants in each row with those.

On another strawberry note, I spend the month of Feb at the races and racing in Fla. The people I live with down there are not too far from Plant City, which in my opinion, produces the best strawberries I have ever eaten. Not a day passes that we don't have some strawberries. You can buy them at the flea market, beside the road or at the quick shop, they're all good!!!!
