are friends with vfem's sweet potatoes! I harvested the row yesterday and couldn't believe the size of these things! Many of them are 3 pounds each...The small bags of carrots in the grocery are 2 pounds. Even though they are very large, they are sweet and delicious. We harvested over 70 butternut squash and now the carrots... by spring our skin is bound to have an orange tint to it!! Next weekend, the beets... they look huge too!

Oh, no, Lesa! Next, you will be turning beet red!

Success in the garden: Good for You!

You know, there is this theory out there, it may exist just to help us get up off the ground, dust ourselves off and get back in the game after we fail. The theory is that we learn more from our failures than our successes. I am coming to the idea that we learn about the same but what we learn from a success is more important. There are probably a half dozen paths to success but there are hundreds of roads to failure and I'm not interested in taking them all, one at a time.

Have we got a chance to have a fool-proof route all figured out? No way! I'm evidence to that.

My little secret, it is easier to claim success with any harvest, whatsoever.

Good for you Lesa! Is this a different variety than you usually plant?

I skipped planting a lot of vegetables this year, including carrots. Now I'm sorry!

I'm not doubting you Lesa, but like Mary and So Lucky said, - got pictures? Maybe with today's headlines? ;)

Just teasing!

Please DO tell us how you did it. I have never had any luck with carrots. All I get is scrawny 3" toothpicks that take forever to grow. I quit trying several years ago. OK girlfriend, you owe us some pics!!!!

Congratulations on your success, Lesa. :clap Hope you didn't plant any pole beans. That giant can be a real pain (or so I read).

Anyhoo, back in the days when I was involved in auto racing, and we didn't have a very successful weekend there was always some smart--- who would ask, "How did you do this weekend?" my response was, "Better than those who didn't show up and race!"

The same could be said for gardening, or for that matter any other endeavor. You did better than all those who didn't even try. :)

"Tis better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all."
