It's like every year, we get something new.

All of a sudden, these things are everywhere.

Can anyone identify this? It's about 6" tall.

Close, but I don't think that's it - I don't think the shepherd's purse has leaves like this.

Hi thistle bloom!

It definitely looks like it's in the family - all the images/references I see, though, seem to indicate those little heart-shaped "purses"...hmm...

There is a common weed around here that looks kind of like that, that my grandma used to have me gather for her caged birds to eat. She called it canary grass, but I don't think that is the right name. It is really hard to pull up, having a strong wiry stem.
