So, our neighbors up the street have ducks and chickens. We both belong to a local facebook group for people with barnyard animals. Well, the other day she posted that she was going to focus on chickens and wanted to sell all of her ducks.

At the time that she posted that, her daughter was happily playing in my daughters room, so I had a sneaking suspicion that she didn't know what was going on. I told her that I would take one of them, the Khaki Campbell named Lily, because that's her daughters favorite. I figured that since she just lived 2 houses up, that she could come visit her whenever she wanted and that she would be okay with getting rid of the rest of the ducks and not take it so hard. (What can I say... I'm a bleeding heart!) Well, she told me that "since it's you, I'll let you have her." So I tell the girls to go down and get her, and of course her daughter starts to cry because she didn't know. (It's a 6th sense I say!) After I calm her down and wipe her tears and assure her that she can come visit any time she wants she says "Well... I'm glad you're taking Lily, because anyone else would just put her down because of her BROKEN LEG!" :he

So... now I have a duck that basically has 1 leg because she rarely even uses the broken one unless she is trying to run. She just hops around on one leg.

She's laying already, and has basically been accepted by my flock (Both our flocks free range and have come in contact before, so I'm not worried about diseases) tho she does tend to stay to herself sometimes. The other 4 let her eat with them, and seem to have very little problem with her now, but the first day or so was kinda brutal to watch. :/

What the heck is wrong with me?! Now I can't even put this poor thing out of it's misery because my daughters friend would be heartbroken! LOL I'm just too soft I say... (Yes Marshall... I'll change the signature again when I figure out how to squeeze them all in under the 400 character limit... LOL)

Nacho, is there a way to make a prosthetic leg brace for the duck?

There is a goose that I know of that has a severely deformed leg, but gets around ok, but slow.

You make me laugh!! My daughter always brings me the one eyed, three legged dogs, etc. There isn't a doubt in my mind, that Lily will soon be your favorite duck too!

I'm not quite sure that there is a prosthetic for a duck, but that would be fascinating to see the rehab process!

Sam and the kids are already saying that Lily is their favorite duck. I don't really have a favorite duck... but my favorite chicken is Robbie because he still doesn't have a tail yet... LOL (He was hatched 18June) He is our only rooster tho, and his heartfelt attempts at an early morning crows just make my heart happy. It's quite funny tho, because he's actually my sons rooster! LOL
