Indoor cucumbers

The seedlings for these were transplanted on October 2, 2012 and in only four weeks the cucumbers are just about ready to pick. I found that the secret to growing cucumbers indoors in containers is that THEY DON'T LIKE WET FEET. I have been letting the top of the media dry slightly and top watering only. It works like a charm.

On a serious note, yesterday's edition of the Albany Times Union had an article on the local supermarket wars. The competition locally is really fierce and they are all trying to come up with something new to attract shoppers. One chain, Price Chopper, is expanding their store in Latham, New York to include, I think, 14 eateries, so that you can pick up a complete meal on the way home from work and not have to cook. And, get this, they are going to grow some produce for sale RIGHT IN THE STORE! I am not much for going to supermarkets, but, I intend to check this out when it is finished. I will bring my camera and try to take a photo. I can't imagine that they are going to bring soil into a supermarket. In any event, this should be interesting. More to follow.
