I think my cabbage has been somehow crossed with swiss cheese. Hmm, I could be onto something here.
What's that? That's just bug damage? No, you must be mistaken... :gig

Hahahaha... I've been at war with the cabbage moths as well. They're devouring my bolted radishes, but they are slowly finding the last of my hidden cabbages. The brats!

Between the heat and the cabbage moths all of my brassicas did terrible this spring. I'll try again in the fall.

Have you thought about using BT with such a bad problem with caterpillars?

I started with the BT dusting about a week ago. Darn cabbage worms! I guess since cabbage grows its head from the inside out, any pesticide on the surface won't reach the head once it is formed. (Except it will be in the cells of the plant, a little?) Broccoli is a slightly different story, since the florets are exposed to the worms and to the BT from the git-go. BUT, I really, REALLY don't like finding cabbage worms in my slaw or broccoli salad, so I'm using the BT! I can pick off what I see, but they hide pretty well in the little cabbage heads. :(

Bt isn't really a pesticide. It's a bacteria that is toxic to moths and caterpillars. It's completely safe for people and beneficial insects. I have thought about using it, but since it's too hot already I'm just going to pull the plants out and put in something else. If I need it in the fall I'll get it then.
