My wife bought some seed potatoes about a mounth ago i jsut now getting to where i can plant them. I live on the eastcoast of Maryland. The potaotoes are shriveled up some and the buds tip are turning black are they still good dont want to waste time planting them if they are bad.

I think its too late here, but rather than waste, can you lightly till up a spot, scatter them, cover with straw and then dirt, compost and keep covering as they grow? They would give them a chance instead of wasting them, and would not be a lot of work. I have had them sprout from scraps in garbage piles --it will depend on how warm it is and how soon the temps will be high.

I am in zone 7b also and just read to do fall plantings in June, but you have success planting them in July/Aug? I'm asking b/c this is my first year to plant potatoes at all, and was wanting to plant some for fall.

I do not know about Maryland planting times.

I am not sure either about Maryland but I just put mine in and I live in south west PA. Now is pretty normal for around here.

Last year I planted mid July and had plenty when I dumped my buckets in October. I planted the buckets I just dumped in February.

Where did you get your seed spuds that late in the year, VFEM?
I want some for fall planting (Aug1 perhaps?), but am not sure where to get them...
