I just got the last of my seeds, and this included garlic chives. On the packet it stated that if it wasn't started by march then it would produce until next year. Is this true? Have I waited too long to start it? I am putting in a garlic bed this fall and thought the chives would be a nice hold over until next year.

Should I start some in a pot indoor?

You can start harvesting the leaves from garlic chives 60 days or so after they are up. Never take more than 50% of the leaves off any one plant. They should Winter over just fine, especialy if you mulch them heavily after the first frost.
If you want to have them all Winter you will need to grow them in a pot indoors.

Great, thank! I planted my shallots seeds last week, I just didn't get to my herb garden yet. I was trying to get to everything else. I need to start some more basil. I am getting ready to start harvesting, maybe tomorrow and I need to get something to fill the place in a couple of weeks when this first batch has played out.
