So... we're renting a tiller this weekend to till up the rest of the garden... (It sure beats doing it by hand with a shovel and whacking grass on the side of the raised bed to get the dirt!!) since we live in Jacksonville, NC (zone 7b) do you think it's too late to put out our corn and other things? Stupid us were kinda flying by the seats of our pants this year when we decided to put in our garden and started way late!
We have a super busy weekend this weekend! I'm running a 5k on Saturday, and then we have to get the rest of the wood for the beds, and the tiller, and the compost... LOL It's going to be a loooooooonnnnnng weekend!! LOL

It depends on what your other things are. In North Carolina (it's nice whe somebody gives you information like this to help with the answers) you have plenty of time for several things. I'm not that far from you zonewise. I'll plant sweet corn every 10 to 14 days from now until mid to late June to get a staggered harvest. You can transplant tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers and expect a decent harvest. Beans still have plenty of time. I won't plant okra until now since the ground really needs to warm up for it to sprout well. I'll transplant my sweet potatoes, another warm weather crop, next week. I probably won't sow the New Zealand spinach seeds for another month. You can transplant several herbs, basil, dill, and parsley, for example. Dill maybe shoudl have been a bit earlier, but you should do OK. Mine doesn't seem to really enjoy hot dry weather.

If you get a mid-summer drought or unusually hot weather, you can have problems. Depending on how hot it gets, you may have trouble with tomatoes setting on in late summer. There is no guarantee you won't have problems with some of these things, but in general, I would not expect it to be too late for any of these things.

One of my complaints is that the garden centers often sell out of things before it is time to plant them, including live plants. That's when people buy them, so I don't really blame the garden centers, but I do think many of us plant too early.

Oh, just go for it, Nacho! You will probably have better luck than many of us who try to plant as early as we can and then have to fight the weirdo weather!

Well... I was wondering because the field corn already seems like it's coming up! :tongue

I don't think we're going to be planting any okra or things like that.. LOL We're starting everything from seed tho.. so... I guess that's one of the big things that I'm worried about.. are the seeds going to be able to MAKE it... LOL I'm just a worry wart I guess. :plbb

Well that is good to know!! I think (hope) that we will be okay this year... LOL Just got finished tilling the ground up, tomorrow we're putting in the beds. As soon as the rest of the seeds come in... they will go in the ground! The place where we ordered our Non GMO seeds sent them to the wrong place! :barnie
