so lucky
Garden Master
DH and I were sitting on the couch today and he looked out the back and said "I thought I saw a chicken on the deck!" I chuckled, and made some comment about super chickens. Well, I got up and looked, and, sure enough, there was little Fiona, a speckled Sussex, on our back deck, that is about 10 feet off the ground. It has a nearly 4' high solid rail around it, and snow/ice covered steps up to it. No chicken foot prints around it, or anywhere near it.
Since the patio door had a 6" sloping mound of ice/snow out side it, I had to go outside around the house and clean off the steps so I could go up on the deck to rescue the chicken. (Yeah, she probably would have been able to jump down when it started getting dark, but I could tell she was lonely up there.)
I got her and put her on some snow free ground. To get up there, she would have had to either fly up at least 14 feet to get over the rail, or hop up 12 steps that were ice covered. Weird chicken. It's not like there was food up there.
