Today was my husband and my daughter's shared birthday, but I got a gift too!

My husband's aunt gave me a really neat cookbook called "The Best of Thymes" by Marge Clark. It has recipes categorized by the featured herb, which I thought was unusually clever. 12 primary herb categories then another section with a wide assortment of others. Main dishes, breads, desserts, jellies, dressings, oils, tisanes and vinegar infusions, etc. Plus tips on growing, storing and using herbs.

Now when I am up to my nose in basil, I can just turn to that category for inspiration!

That sounds like a handy c.book! I used to grow a lot of herbs, but found I didn't use them very much. Can't remember which herb goes with which foods.

That sounds like a fantastic book idea! I may have to look into it. :)

I have a $25 B&N gift card just calling my name to spend it. ;)

Yes, just bumping into them is nice. One easy thing I have done with my herbs that goes over well at a pot luck is to make deviled eggs. Then put a little snippet of an herb on top so that different eggs have different flavors; some rosemary, some sage, some thyme, some oregano; pretty much anything except mints. Add some sprigs around the plate for garnish. This is a good way to try the different flavors.

Wow... am I the only one who makes 1-2 trips out for herbs each night at dinner. I do so much I send my 3 year old out to the deck to grab me sage, parsley, basil, oregano.... and she knows which one is which. (Hubby, not so much! LOL)

Smart kid! That's great to get them started learning useful stuff that early.

I don't really trust my 3 year old to pick herbs or pull weeds in the garden yet. Not without me standing over her!

Cookbooks are the best gifts. My husband and oldest son share their birthday with my brother, July 23rd. Isn't it funny how families seem to have the same dates like that.

I guess we won't get a Guiness world record then...

My husband, daughter, my dad and one of my dear old friends are all on June 24th! I told my hubby that she would be the most expensive and probably last b-day present he'd ever get! :gig
