Massive amounts of compost material just sitting beside the curbs of America (in plastic bags, even) as folks get the spring fever to clean up their yards.

That's funny, I thought about stealing people's bagged leaves out on the curbs back over the fall! LOL

To think, people actually bag perfectly compostable leaves into none biodegradable bags?! What's the sense in that? :/

Great job with the compost, boggy! How much of that is ready to add to your soil?

None of it is, yet. It's all newly started piles.....90% of it is from one trip into town, yesterday.

v.....Don't make sense to me, either......but sure glad they do.:D

Here is the same two large piles, covered with a permeable, black membraine....ready to start "cookin". Don't usually cover my compost but it, still, being early in the year with lots of wind....gotta do it this time. Take advantage of the sun's heat to the max.

Good plan Boggy! The sun sure is useful and amazing.

That's why I keep my compost in a double doored black plastic truck tool box. I switch sides as I turn the compost, and the sun cooks it in the black box all winter, it stays warm in there. I just have to wet it now and then.

I just don't get NEAR that much compost. however, I keep a seperate pile by the woods of nothing but manure, leaves, old chicken coop pine shavings and poo, and grass clippings. This is also where I through the stuff that is done I rip out of the garden. (And eventually my chickens go out there and dig and turn it for me. :p

I went to the town park the other day to check for a number. There's a drop-off for compostables and a pick up area for composted soil. Most of it was just a pile in the compostables area, but some people had thrown bagged compostables (presumably) in there too. Even if you only have a car and HAVE to bag it, you'd think that they'd dump it or SOMETHING.

Some folks are just lazy and/or don't care. 'Course, being still in bags makes it easier for someone to scarf it up and take it to their compost pile.
It's really neat that your town does the composting and offers it back to the public.
