We're giving a wedding party in our yard this summer, and I want to use Japanese lanterns. Who has the most attractive, festive and affordable ones in vibrant colors? I'd also like to set off some of the ones with fire in them that soar into the sky, but I'm very afraid of the fire, so I probably won't go that route.

I love the floating lanterns, but unless you set them off at the ocean, you risk burning a lot of stuff. Have you looked at lanterns at Party City or another party specialty store? My wife always goes to those stores and brings back pretty interesting stuff.

I've seen several around but cannot recall at what retailers. I would think if you just google Japanese lanterns, a lot of options will pop up. They are really terrific and add a lot of character to a party.

Oh, the Japanese lanterns will look so pretty. I love them. As for where to get them, you can always try Amazon, since they have everything. There's also a site called paperlanternstore.com that would have a large selection.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've found some really nice looking possibilities and at reasonable prices, too. I wish we were near water so we could set off the lighted lanterns, but that won't be wise at all. The lanterns themselves will work great, and maybe I can do some little wonderful matching favors.

I love these paper lanterns, too. We used them to decorate proms on more than one occasions, and they added light, brightness and were wonderful in regard to the overall atmosphere. I love using white lights with them, too. Good luck on your party.

I don't think I've seen a lighted lantern unless you are talking about Wish lanterns? I have seen regular ones at several party stores and at Lowe's. I've never priced them though. I bet it will look pretty sharp for the wedding.

Try Oriental Trading Company. They won't have the ones that you set on fire, but they will have packs of the colored ones at affordable prices. I've seen them used at birthday parties and they are really nice.

I second the Oriental Trading Company for lanterns. I get their catalogue and there are always nice things in there at great prices. I am glad you have already found some lanterns. :)
