Hi all, I spotted a beautiful tree in a yard where my son was doing construction work last week. I found out it is a Korean Dogwood, beautiful in bloom right now, very interesting bark also. I want to get one for my yard. I have some kind of wild dogwoods in my yard now. My zone is right on the line between 4 and 5. The yard where this beautiful tree is is in zone 5, about 40 miles south of my house. The info I found online says the tree is rated for zone 5-8. Can I have it, please!!

It's worth trying, if you can locate a well-grown nursery plant (that is, shapely and not overly potbound nor root-damaged) and can plant it in a not overly cold or exposed site. (So, your odds are best if you are on a hillside and have lots of trees or etc around where the dogwood would go; your odds are poorer if you're in a valley bottom 'frost pocket' and/or the site is exposed to strong winds)

I mean, all you're risking is whatever its purchase price is. I can totally understand falling in love with a 'borderline' tree and wanting to try it :) (although, since I *do* live in a very windy frost-pocket that is colder than our official zone, I mostly suppress the urge, as not even all the woody plants that are *supposed* to be hardy here actually are)

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
