I know you Southern gardeners will see nothing special about this post, but I ate lettuce straight from the garden today. Massachusetts. Zone 6. Should have had a freeze by now. Snow tomorrow about an hour from here but we will get rain. I still have herbs tolerant to the cold, potatoes, carrots and brussels sprouts. But, the lettuce is a real coup.

Today I noticed I still have parsley, lettuce, mustard, and a few other herbs. Getting colder tonight, so that may do them in. Under my low hoop, I have lots of mustard-----well, comparatively lots. I cut some a couple days ago and we had it for supper last night, cooked with bacon and onions. So good.

We took everything off the garden and dug root crops. Fall has fallen way to winter COLD / 14 degrees with high of 21 yesterday. Looks cold, very cold, for the next 10 days.

Yeah it's supposed to be a cold winter from what I've heard. I don't know if we'll get the record snow falls we saw like last year but I'm ok with a cold winter.

So long as we actually get a SUMMER in 2015! I was more disappointed by a serious lack of summer in 2014 than I'm bothered by an extra cold winter.

I don't even have lettuce planted yet. You should be proud of your harvest! We've skipped Fall, too. It was 83 a couple days ago, and now down to 27. Leaves are still on the trees so I didn't have any to cover the perennials with. Harvested the last of the beans and picked chili pequins yesterday.

That is some bodacious lettuce. I don't even have a fall garden this year because of the move, so I have to live vicariously through the rest of you for my fall fix.
