The only thing...my Gold Jubilee tomatoes (seen on the left in the first pic just behind the onions) seem to always have curled up,wilty looking leaves no matter how much I water .The rest of the tomatoes seem fine. What gives?

Everything looks great! My tomatoes occasionally do the curly thing, too, but I haven't been too worried as the leaves are all still green and the tomatoes are still growing. I hope someone answers your question though, then I'll know, too.

I'm thinking of doing a SFG next season. I really like your idea of raising it up so you don't break your back.

Have you read the book "Square foot gardening"? It is a fantastic book, well worth a read. It ells you exactly how many of each kind of veggie you can plant within the SQ Ft.

I ask, as I notice you seem to have quite a bit planted in some spots.

As to the leaf curling of your tom's. Are they actually wilting, or still firm but just curling at the edges?

Could be overwatering..

Here is a link to some answers.

I hate being an pest  , but those tomatoes just seem way to close together. Honestly, if its wilting it could be fighting for nutrients and is getting tangled up with your other tomatoes at the roots causing the issues?! :duc

I have a brandy wine tomato in my raised bed that is already 4+' feet tall. I have the roots at least 12" deep to support this monster. I still get worried its going to try to steal some nutrients in my raised bed from the Mr. Stripy tomato I moved in next door to here.

So far... she's the plant that made me realize just how darn wild tomatoes can go!? :celebrate

I remember years ago, when Mel Bartholomew had his "Sqaure Foot Gardening" show on PBS. I would sit there everyday, hanging rapt on his every word (this was before the internet and I had no computer, if anyone can remember that far back :) ).

I tried everything is his book and still refer to it all the time. I still plant by that method. Then I learned about a thing called French intensive growing, which was the same thing. All in all it is a great way to go.

Yours, Im delighted to say, has carried it to the nth degree. I dont do anything as fancy as all that. I just use the 4 sq ft basic plot and work from there. This season Im doing trench and trellis sections in a previously unbroken spot. And you guessed it, they are 2 sq ft by 4 sq ft.
