Okay I planted my raised bed garden April 17th. Some started plants and some from seed. My lettuce was from seed. It was a mix, I got some short tender leaves (several cuttings) and it was good. It started to flower and I removed all of it (ate it). So now I would like to try my hand at some butter crunch and lose leaf. Can I sow seed now or is it too hot?

I pulled up all my radishes, they never developed. It got too hot I believe. So when can I safely replant radishes for fall?

From eating all my lettuce and pulling all the radishes, I have several empty squares that I amended with some compost.

Your garden zone and location are not listed under your screen name.

Where you are is going to be big factor.

Since I am in Colorado, the radishes have already bolted. I wont plant again until the end of July or early August.

I am in the opposite corner of the country but I just harvested some nice heads of Buttercrunch, yesterday. Also, some more leaf lettuce seed went into containers so that transplants can be started in the backyard and set out in the garden in a couple of weeks. Their needs can be attended to a little better that way, and lettuce transplants easily. Well, if you have a delicate touch. Planting them in little "clumps" is easier than singling them out, 1 by 1.

"Lettuce is adapted to cool growing conditions with the optimum temperatures for growth of 60 to 65F." North Carolina State University It isn't entirely just a matter of temperature but cool weather is fairly important. Afternoon shade can compensate a bit for higher temperatures.

What do you think about greenbeans or, if there is enuf room, some summer squash or sweet corn?

I have a whole bed of green beans 21 plants with a bamboo teepee structure that I built for the climbing vines. I would love to grow more squash. My area is out of the started plants, I guess I need to look for seed, but the big box stores are out. I would also love some cayenne pepper. Pepper vinegar is good on collards I plan to grow this winter.
