Monsanto has been gobbling up small seed companies at such a rate thet now OVER 90% of seed in the world is either patented by or controlled by this giant.
Please list any small independent seed companies you know of that have escaped their clutches so we on The Easy Garden can give them our business. I'll start with two

High Mowing Seeds in Vermont is great- and they won a lawsuit with Monsanto. I had the pleasure of visiting there, on a trip to Vermont for their annual Garden Show- really nice people, doing the right thing...

My very favorite independent seed company is Native Seed Search, based here in Tucson, AZ. For southwestern desert dwellers it's an amazing resource for locally adapted vegetables. Their web site seems to be not working at the moment, but here is their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Native-SeedsSEARCH/178915215751?sk=info

Their mission statement:
The mission of Native Seeds/SEARCH (Southwestern Endangered Aridland Resources Clearing House) is to conserve, distribute, and document the adapted and diverse varieties of agricultural seeds, their wild relatives and the role these seeds play in cultures of the American Southwest and northwest Mexico.

I'm not familiar with the Monsanto thing, what is going on with the seed companies? Is someone trying to monopolize the industry? It all sounds very concerning to me. :hu

Thanks for killing my productivity, hoodat! I spent the last two hours and $40 with Sample Seeds! LOL

The prices are so reasonable and because I'm so new to gardening, I always worry about paying too much for seeds only to kill them..She has great options and the descriptions are very honest, even if it doesn't "sell" the seed. I like that!

I'll report back once I receive them.

You'll like dealing with Remy. She goes the extra mile. I have yet to receive bad seeds from her.

90%. As long as you are making things up, why not say they own 100%?

There are small seed companies that are family owned. Just don't ask where they get their seed. Do business with the type of people/companies you want but do you need to put people/companies down? Does saying how bad someone is, make you feel superior? So sad.
