Anybody else order them? I been surfing the internet and I've only found 1 U.S. based seller who has them and that makes me a little nervous to try to get them. I'm looking for that classic little chubby pickle. The Parisian that Baker Creek sells my wife gave me the thumbs down on, (she's the one who wants the gherkins) so a hybrid is acceptable.

I know its not a normal request but I appreciate any help I an get on this.

Johnnys has a gherkin called "Adam" on page 32 of their catalog Jared. And Territorial has one on page 31 "Agnes".
Sounds like a couple... I see High Mowing also has Adam. I haven't actually looked for it this year yet, but there's a little one called
Mexican Sour gherkin that I wanted to try but the grasshoppers ate them down a few years ago. They're super small ( I guess ).
If I can find the seed I'll give them a try again this year.

There is a confusion in the term, especially in the US. The gherkins we are used to buying in the stores are actually a special variety of cucumber but the true gherkin is native to India and is only a cousin of the cucumber. True gherkins are available from several seed supply houses but I've never tried to grow them.

Thank you both!!! Hoodat that's exactly the problem I've had when I've done internet searches. I kept finding burr or globe style of Gherkin from India and not the little midget cucumbers.

Jared, ask your wife if she is talking about these:

http://www.seedsavers.org/Details.aspx?itemNo=1434

If not, she just wants a nice "chubby" pickling cucumber.

I have grown both. The gherkin gherkin, I didn't know what to do with other than eat it raw when it was very young.

The pickling cucumber, I didn't know what to do with, either. I just grew them for other people. . . . I don't make pickles .

The cucumber that worked well enuf for me as a pickling cucumber was Boston Pickling. Lots of seed companies have that one. I noticed Victory Seed when I did a search. I'm fairly sure that I got my seed out of a Ferry Morris package from the garden center.
